Why a client studio builds its own products
Running our own apps keeps us honest about everything that happens after launch: support, analytics, pricing, and the fourth rewrite of onboarding.
Most studios hand a product over at launch. We also have to live with ours afterwards. Motif, Ashkar, Tarkav and QuizHQ are products we design, build, ship and support ourselves. That changes how we work for clients.
What running a product teaches you
When you are the one answering support email, you start caring about different things:
- Error states get written first. An empty screen or a vague error turns into a support ticket on Monday morning.
- Analytics go in on day one. You can't improve onboarding if you can't see where people drop off.
- Boring infrastructure earns its keep. Backups, migrations and logs aren't glamorous, but they decide whether a bad day is short or long.
What it means for client work
When we build your product, the same people who maintain ours are making the decisions. We think about the second year of your product while we are still sketching its first screen.
A launch is the first day you find out what you built.
If that is the kind of partner you are looking for, start a project.
